Overview

The card game genre is one of the most prominent in web3 at the moment. With tons of potential contenders for the top game in the genre, Aether: Trading Card Game stands out with its heavy focus on IP and giving players a refreshing experience with tons of innovative keywords and possible decks.

The cards are bought and sold as non-fungible tokens (NFT) on different Blockchain. Players can compete against other players or AI opponents in 1-on-1 combat, battling to destroy the enemy Adventurer before they are themselves defeated. Aether: Trading Card Game stands out as the closest counterpart to Hearthstone for traditional gamers making the jump into web3 gaming considering the similar core mechanics.

Deck Building

There are a total of 150 cards available for players upon the game’s release. They are split across the game’s 6 creature types; Dragons, Trolls, Fairies, Beasts, Demons, and Elementals. Each one of them carry certain buffs and special abilities to cater for different playstyles.

You need to create a deck of 30 cards, headed by one Adventurer to represent you in-game and a Pet which comes with an ability that can switch the match's tide in your favor. You can have two copies of the same card in your deck as long as it is within the acceptable rarity.

This is where Aether: Trading Card Game shines because the 150 cards available upon release are impressively diverse with tons of unique keywords that allow high skilled players to theorize countless decks. Once you build around your Adventurer's special ability and your Pet's power, your deck gets a lot stronger.

Adventurers and Pets

At launch, Aether: Trading Card Game will feature 10 Adventurers. Each one of them representing an element with the 10th being neutral to be suitable for all playstyles.

With time and experience, Adventurers can power all the way up to 10th level of their Mastery. Each level grants a certain passive trait, yet exact numbers may be subjected to changes. Here is a closer look into 8 of the 10 Adventurers, their name, and special ability:

  1.  Adventurer of Fire — Enrico de Guerra: Grants +1 attack to random fellow creature.
  2. Adventurer of Water — Dona Camille: Heals 2 random damaged creatures for the amount of unspent Aether.
  3. Adventurer of Wind — Aisha: Reduces Aether cost per 1 for one card right after opponents turn.
  4. Adventurer of Thunder — Andre Bonaventure: When damaged, counterattacks offensive creature by 1.

  2. Black Tergy (Chaos) — once per match destroys all enemy cards. Damages own friendly Adventurer by amount of destroyed cards.
