Aavegotchi’s game, Gotchi Guardians, has introduced a browser-based version, allowing players to access the game without needing an external launcher or downloads. This update simplifies the onboarding process, making it easier for new users to engage with the game. By shifting to browser play, the Aavegotchi team has aimed to improve accessibility while maintaining a smooth gaming experience. Although the standalone launcher is currently unavailable, developers have indicated that it may return in the future with additional features.

About Aavegotchi

Aavegotchi is a unique DeFi-enabled crypto collectibles game that combines Decentralized Finance (DeFi) and NFTs. Developed by Singapore-based Pixelcraft Studios, it allows players to stake Non-fungible tokens (NFTs) avatars with interest-generating tokens and interact with the Aavegotchi metaverse. The Aavegotchis are pixelated ghosts - their value is determined by rarity level, which is calculated via multiple factors, such as base traits, amount of staked collateral/aTokens, and equipped wearables.

With this update, Gotchi Guardians now supports on-chain Aavegotchi skins. Players who own Aavegotchis can equip them as visual skins for their Guardians, providing a new way to personalize their in-game appearance. These skins do not impact gameplay mechanics or performance, serving solely as a cosmetic feature. Players can select their preferred skins through the Guardians selector, with a brief loading period depending on the asset. This feature enhances player engagement by allowing them to showcase their Aavegotchi collections during gameplay.

GHST Integration for In-Game Purchases

Gotchi Guardians has introduced GHST as a payment method for acquiring in-game currency known as G-Bucks. Transactions take place on the Base blockchain, aligning with the broader Aavegotchi ecosystem. The implementation of GHST payments follows Coinbase’s recent decision to enable GHST deposits and withdrawals on the Base network, making it easier for players to fund their Aavegotchi Player Profiles.

Once funded, players can purchase G-Bucks and other in-game items through the Gotchi Guardians shop. To provide additional payment flexibility, players can now purchase G-Bucks using credit cards via the payment partner Xsolla. This feature is part of ongoing efforts to simplify the purchasing process and make in-game transactions more accessible to a wider audience.

Gameplay Improvements and New Features

The latest update also introduces Spectator Mode, allowing players to observe ongoing battles without directly participating. This feature provides a new way to engage with the game by enabling players to watch matches, study strategies, and support the community. Spectator Mode is expected to encourage more player interaction and participation in community-led events.

In addition to new features, the update includes various gameplay balance adjustments and bug fixes. While the full list of changes has not been detailed in the announcement, the developers have made patch notes available on the Gotchi Guardians Notion page. These updates aim to refine the game’s mechanics as it continues its development toward a full release.

“Show Us Your Clips” Creator Campaign

To increase player engagement and promote community-generated content, the Aavegotchi team has introduced the “Show Us Your Clips” campaign. Players who record or stream their gameplay and submit highlight clips have the opportunity to earn GHST token rewards. Reward amounts range from 100 to 1,000 GHST, with the selection process considering factors such as entertainment value, originality, effort, and social media engagement.

Submitted clips may be featured on Aavegotchi and Gotchi Guardians’ official social media channels. Players who share their clips independently also remain eligible for rewards if their content is reposted or retweeted by the Aavegotchi team. The initiative is currently in a pilot phase and may undergo adjustments in the future. Clip submissions are being collected through a dedicated Typeform link.

Final Thoughts

Gotchi Guardians remains in its alpha phase, currently at version 0.8.5, with the development team continuing to refine and expand the game. The latest update is considered an important step toward the eventual 1.0 release, which is expected to be available across multiple platforms. Future updates may include additional tournaments and community events, providing players with opportunities to develop their skills and compete in organized competitions.

Players can access the game through the official Gotchi Guardians website and are encouraged to join the Aavegotchi Discord server to discuss updates, provide feedback, and engage with the community. With browser-based access, expanded customization options, and new reward mechanics, Gotchi Guardians continues to evolve within the web3 gaming space.
